Itinerary
Day
1 : USA-MANAGUA
Depart USA to Managua. Meeting and assistance upon arrival
and transfer to your hotel. Balance of day is at leisure.
Day 2 : MANAGUA-MASAYA VOLCANO-INDIAN MARKET (B,L)
A full day tour takes you to the old downtown where you will
visit the Presidential House, Convention Center, Louis Alfonzo
Velasquez Park, the old Metropolitan Cathedral and the Ruben
Dario National Theater. Continue through the Masaya road and
residential areas to the Roberto Huembes Market, a very interesting
place for arts and crafts of artists from all over the country.
Then to Acahualinca Archaeological Museum. Lunch at a local
restaurant. Visit the Masaya Volcano National Park, one of
Nicaragua's most interesting sites. Drive to the top of the
volcano, where you can look into the steaming Santiago crater.
Continue to the Museum of Natural History, and then on to
the town of Masaya and its famous handicraft market. Return
to Managua.
Day
3 : MATAGALPA- SELVA NEGRA CLOUD FOREST (B, L)
Depart via the Pan-American Highway to the central region
of Nicaragua to the mountain town of Matagalpa. Visit the
town and its fascinating historic church. Continue to Selva
Negra Reserve, eco-oriented and self sustainable. A large
forest surrounds the hotels with a large population of birds,
orchids and amphibians. Overnight at the Selva Negra
Mountain Resort.
Day 4 : ESTELI-LEON-MONTELIMAR (B,L,D)
Today you will visit the town of Esteli, where you will see
the cigar factory houses to observe how hand made cigars are
selected, branded and prepared. Continue to Leon. Your city
tour includes a visit to the Cathedral, the largest in Central
America. It contains magnificent colonial religious art and
the tombs of Nicaragua's most famous citizens. Continue to
Montelimar where you will be transferred to Barcelo Montelimar
Resort for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 : MONTELIMAR (B,L,D)
Located in the Pacific shores of Nicaragua, Montelimar is
one of the most dazzling beaches in the region. Full day at
leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities.
Day 6 : MONTELIMAR-GRANADA (ISLANDS OF LAKE NICARAGUA)
(B,L)
Depart for Granada, the oldest colonial city in the country
founded by the Spanish conquistadors in 1524. You will visit
the Central Plaza, City Hall and the Convent of San Francisco,
now a museum. Cruise the islands of Lake Nicaragua, the largest
lake in Central America, 60 miles long and 30 miles wide.
There are about 354 small islands called "Las Isletas" in
the lake, covered with varied tropical vegetation. Cruising
through the islands is an unforgettable experience. Lunch
included in Granada. Overnight in Granada.
Day 7 : GRANADA-OMETEPE ISLAND (B,L)
Morning transfer to San Jorge to board a boat for a 1-hour
sail to the island of Ometepe. It is the largest island in
the Lake, formed by two volcanoes. The island was a ceremonial
place for several Indian cultures and there is a number of
ancient stone statues and petroglyphs dated before the arrival
of the Spaniards. You will visit the church in the small town
of Altagracia, local museum and Punta Jesus Maria. Continue
traveling through the islands taking in their natural beauty
and archaeological treasures. Overnight in Santo Domingo beach.
Day 8 : OMETEPE ISLAND-MANAGUA (B)
You will board a boat for your return to San Jorge. Then
you will be transferred to Granada. Upon arrival, transfer
to
your Managua hotel for overnight. Balance of day at leisure.
Day 9 : MANAGUA-USA (B)
After breakfast, transfer back to Managua Airport for your
flight home.
