DAY 3: AMMAN (B,D)
Today start your tour of Amman the modern capital city of Jordan (known in history as Rabbath-Ammon and in the Greek-Roman period as Philadelphia) with a visit to the ancient citadel. You will see the remains of the Temple of Hercules and the Greek Roman Theater. Continue to the archaeology and folklore museums and one of the many art galleries of the city. The afternoon is free for your own activities. Dinner this evening is in the Kan Zaman village, just outside of Amman. It is a walled fortress, built at the turn of the century and transformed into a restaurant & handicraft center. Enjoy traditional Jordanian cuisine and folklore music and dancing.

DAY 4: AMMAN - DEAD SEA-PELLA - UMM QEIS (B)
Today you will drive to the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, to experience floating in the waters. You will continue northward to visit the ruins of the ancient city of Pella in the Jordan valley, one of the richest, largest and most important archaeological sites in the area. From there on to Umm Qeis (Gedara of the ancient days) a very important cultural center of the Greek-Roman period, for a visit & a panoramic view of the Sea of Galilee & the Golan Heights. Return to Amman.

DAY 5: AMMAN-JERASH-AJLOUN (B)
Today you will visit Jerash (Gerasa of the ancient days), built by the legions of Alexander the Great in the 2nd century BC. Jerash was a member of the Decapolis, a dynamic commercial league of ten Greek cities which flourished in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. You will walk the colonnaded streets and visit the ruins of the Theaters & the Temples. Continue to Ajloun to visit the 12th century Saracen castle, built in 1184 by Usama Ibn Munqich, nephew of Salah El Din for his campaign against the Crusaders in 1189. Return to Amman.

DAY 6: MADABA - MT.NEBO - PETRA (B)
Drive southward this morning along the ancient King's Highway, one of the oldest trade routes in the world, to Madaba, home of the finest Byzantine mosaics. View the 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem, possibly the oldest map of the holy city in existence. Continue to Mt. Nebo, the highest point of the Moabite mountain range, overlooking the Jordan valley & the Dead Sea, to see the memorial of Moses, the presumed site of his death & burial place. Tradition holds that Moses viewed the promised land from this peak. From there you move on to Kerak, driving through the magnificent scenery of Wadi Mujib to visit the Crusader castle. Continue to Petra for overnight.

DAY 7: PETRA (B)
Today you will have a full day to visit the many sites of Petra, the city that was carved into the red-rose rock of Sharah mountains by the Nabateans and lost to civilization for centuries. Petra was rediscovered in 1812 by the Swiss traveler Johann Ludwing Burkhardt. You will walk through the Siq, a narrow & winding fissure between the cliffs to reach the treasury, the Greek Roman Theater, the courts, the Temple of the Winged Lion & other monuments. Overnight in Petra.

DAY 8: PETRA - WADI RUM - AMMAN (B)
Drive to the Wadi Rum desert this morning, one of Jordan's largest & most magnificent desert landscapes. Here the film "Lawrence of Arabia" was shot. Enjoy a short ride on a 4x4 vehicle and return to Amman for overnight.
