Peru invades your soul. Once the center of the Inca Empire, there is a mysticism in Peru that leaves you with a yearning to learn more about the ancient civilizations that built such places as Macchu Picchu, Sipan, and Gran Pajatan. That designed such intricate irrigation systems as to rival those of today, and that carved the giant figures into the sand on the Plains of Nazca.

Leaving Peru, you are left with a feeling that you have somehow visited the past. Lima was the center of Spanish power in the New World, and you are at once struck by the Spanish influence on the Indian culture. Lima offers many structures of historical significance, beautiful churches, and excellent shopping. A short plane ride takes you to Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas, which is reputed to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the western hemisphere. From Cuzco, you depart for the sacred valley of the Incas with its colorful Indian markets, and Macchu Picchu "The lost city of the Incas." A visit to Puno brings you to the mystical shores of Lake Titicaca. Iquitos should not be missed as it is the main city on the Amazon and gateway into the jungle.
