Itinerary
Day
1: USA - SANTIAGO
Depart for the USA on your overnight flight to Santiago.
Day 2: SANTIAGO
Early morning arrival in Santiago. Assistance at the airport
and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon tour of Santiago incuding
the Club Hipico (a horseracing track), Cousino Palace, "La
Moneda" government palace, the Pre-Columbian Art Museum,
and the Plaza de Armas. Then on to San Cristobal Hill for
a fine all-round view of the capital.
Day 3: SANTIAGO (VINA DEL MAR - VALPARAISO) (B)
Following breakfast, depart on a full day tour to Vina del
Mar & Valparaiso. Continue to Vina del Mar, Chile's most
popular seaside resort. Skirting along the coast, you proceed
to Chile's main international seaport, Valparaiso.
Day 4: SANTIAGO (B)
Full day leisure to enjoy this beautiful city.
Day 5: SANTIAGO-PUNTA ARENAS (B,D)
After breakfast transfer to Santiago Airport for your flight
to Punta Arenas. Meeting & transfer to the pier to board
the Expedition Cruise Ship Mare Australis. The
Captain and crew will give a welcome cocktail reception on board. Immediately
afterward, the ship will set sail for the ”uttermost part of the earth.” Through
the mythical Strait of Magellan, you will travel to Southern Patagonia, including
Tierra de Fuego. This is the beginning of a Great Adventure!
Day 6: CRUISE (Ainsworth Bay – Tucker Islet) (B,L,D)
During the dawn’s early light, your ship will continue navigating
through Almirantazgo Inlet, until arriving near Marinelli
Glacier in Ainsworth Bay, where you will enjoy a walk to
discover a beaver dam in the midst of a marvelous Magellanic
forest.
On the beach you will observe a colony of Elephant Seals.
Continuing the voyage, you will visit Tucker Islet, where
you will sight colonies of Magellanic penguins and Cormorants
from the zodiac boats.
Day
7: CRUISE (Pia Glacier – Glacier Alley)(B,L,D)
Today you will navigate the main part of the Beagle Channel to enter Pia Fjord
and disembark near the glacier of the same name. Embark on an excursion
to a
lookout point
that is ideal for viewing the mountain range where the glacier originates, and
its flow all the way to the sea. After this unforgettable experience, you
will sail again along the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel through majestic “Glacier
Alley”: Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Holland glaciers.
Day 8: CRUISE (Cape Horn and Puerto Williams)(B,L,D)
Sail through the Beagle and Murray Channels to disembark in Cape Horn National
Park. Cape Horn, a sheer, almost 425-meter-high promontory, where the Atlantic
and Pacific Ocean merge. It was discovered in 1616 by the Dutch commercial
expedition organized by Isaac Le Maire. The Cape owes its name to the Port
of Hoorn, the expedition’s departure point.
In the afternoon, you will disembark in Port Williams, the southernmost town
in the world, where you can take optional excursions, such as the visit
to
Martin Gusinde Museum.
Day 9 CRUISE (Ushuaia)(B,L,D)
Ushuaia is the most important Argentine city in Tierra de
Fuego, and the southernmost city in the world. Here you
will
have
a full day to join one of the optional sightseeing
tours available.
Day 10: CRUISE (Cape Horn – Wulaia Bay)(B,L,D)
This morning proceed through the Beagle Channel & Murray
Channel to Cape Horn National Park. In the afternoon you
will disembark in historical Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region’s
largest native settlements. This area is also renowned for the spectacular
beauty of its vegetation and geography. Walk through a Magellanic forest
filled with Lengas, Coigües, Canelos, ferns and other species to reach a look-out
point.
Day 11: CRUISE (Chico Inlet)(B,L,D)
Disembark in Chico Inlet for a zodiac boat approach to Piloto and Nena glaciers,
providing you with a closer look at these awe-inspiring masses of ancient
icel.
Day
12: CRUISE (Madgalena Island - Punta Arenas) - DEPARTURE
(B)
Early in the morning you will disembark on Magdalena Island,
the home of an immense colony of more than 120,000 Magellanic
Penguins that you will be able to observe during a
walk to the Lighthouse that guides different ships on
their
way through the Strait of Magellan. After your visit,
you will return to Punta Arenas and
be transfered to the airport for the return flight home
via
Santiago.
