Itinerary
Day
1: USA-LA PAZ
Depart USA via overnight flight to La Paz with meals on board.
Day 2: LA PAZ
Early morning arrival in La Paz. You will be met at the airport,
assisted and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon,
a tour of the city of La Paz takes you to a typical Indian
Market, the famous Witch Doctor's Market, the San Francisco
colonial church, built in 1744. Pass by the Plaza Murillo,
where the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the National
Congress buildings are located. Then you will visit the famous
colonial street "Calle Jaen" in the old La Paz, the archaeological
Temple of the Tiwanacu period, the residential areas of Obrajes,
Calacoto, La Florida and unique Moon Valley. Return to your
hotel.
Day 3: LA PAZ -TIWANACU- HUATAJATA (B,L)
Strat your tour today with a visit to the ruins of Tiwanacu,
the capital of the Aymara civilization. See the ruins of the
Akapana Pyramid, the Kalasasaya and underground Temples, and
the famous Gate of the Sun. Continue to Huatajata on the shores
of the Lake Titicaca. Visit the Altiplano museum and the Andean
Eco-village. Meet the Limachi brothers, builders of the RA
II and Tigris of Thor Heyerdal. Night visit to the mystic
world of the Kallawayas, local medicine doctors and fortunetellers,
and the Aiapacha Native Observatory.
Day 4: LAKE TITICACA (B,L)
Cross the Sacred Lake by hydrofoil to Copacabana with the
famous Cathedral of "Virgin Morena", Bolivia's most important
religious shrine. Then sail to the Sun and Moon Islands. According
to the legend, the Inca couple Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo
appeared here and founded the Sun Empire. Visit the Inca Steps
and the water spring fountain (Sun Island), and the "Iniak
Uyu" Sun Virgins Temple (Moon island). Return to La Paz.
Day 5: LA PAZ-SUCRE (B)
Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Sucre, the constitutional
capital of Bolivia. Visit the Cathedral, the churches and
cloisters of la Recoleta, San Felipe and Guadalupe, the House
of Liberty, where Simon Bolivar signed the Declaration of
Independence, the Bell of Freedom and the second oldest University
in South America, founded in 1624.
Day 6: SUCRE (TARABUCO FAIR and CANDELARIA FARM) (B,L)
Today you will visit the colorful Sunday Fair of nearby Tarabuco.
Natives from the area come to town to trade and sell their
products. After a country style lunch continue with a visit
to the ancient Spanish "Hacienda Candelaria", where you can
see handicraft elaboration and typical Indian dances of the
area. Return to Sucre.
Day 7: SUCRE-SANTA CRUZ-JESUIT MISSIONS (B,L,D)
Fly to Santa Cruz and start your tour to the Jesuit Missions.
They are architectural jewels built in the 17th century and
have been declared by UNESCO as "Cultural Patrimony to Humanity".
Day 8: JESUIT MISSIONS-SANTA CRUZ (B,L)
After breakfast this morning, drive to Conception. Visit the
17th century church of the local mission, the town, and the
handicraft workshops. Late afternoon return to Santa Cruz.
Day 9: SANTA CRUZ (SAMAIPATA RUINS) (B,L)
Full day tour today to the impressive Inca ruins of Samaipata,
a beautiful monument located on a mountaintop. Pre-Columbian
natives carved on a natural formation of sandstone 250 meters
high by 50 wide. Ascent to "El Fuerte" for a full observation
of the area. Visit "Cuevas" waterfalls and return to Santa
Cruz.
Day 10: SANTA CRUZ (B)
Your morning tour of Santa Cruz visits the main plaza, the
Cathedral's museum, La Casa de la Cultura, the artesan markets,
the Ethnic- Folklore museum and the zoo.
Day 11: SANTA CRUZ -USA (B)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
