Itinerary
Day 1: USA - QUITO
Depart USA to Quito. Meeting and assistance upon arrival and
transfer to your hotel for overnight. Balance of the day at
leisure.
Day 2: QUITO - GALAPAGOS (Baltra, Santa Cruz - B,L,D)
After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred
from your hotel to the airport to board your flight to Baltra.
Upon arrival, transfer to the dock to board the M/V Galagapos
Legend. In the afternoon visit Santa Cruz Island. Upon landing,
a walk takes you to a hypersalinic lagoon behind the beach
often frequented by flamingos. The trail then leads up a winding
hill to Dragon Hill, offering a great view of the bay. This
area is a nesting site for land iguanas re-introduced by the
Charles Darwin Research Station. Dinner and overnight on board
your ship.
Day 3: GALAPAGOS (Genovesa Island - B,L,D)
This morning disembark at El Barranco in Genovesa Island.
Here you will observe red-footed boobies and frigates. Following
lunch visit Darwin Bay where you will also observe sea lions,
lava gulls and night herons. Opportunity for snorkeling in
the bay to observe sharks and rays. Dinner and overnight on
board.
Day 4: GALAPAGOS (Española, San Cristobal, Darwin Center
- B,L,D)
This morning visit Punta Suarez in Española Island.
Aside from the sea lion colonies this is one of the most important
sites for bird watching. After crossing the nesting grounds
of masked and blue footed boobies you will reach the colony
of waved albatross. Finally you will visit the blowhole where
water shoots 75ft into the air. Following lunch, land at Puerto
Baquerizo Moreno and visit the Darwin Interpretation Center.
Dinner and overnight aboard your ship.
Day 5: GALAPAGOS - QUITO (B)
After breakfast you will disembark at Baltra Beach for your
final opportunity to swim, snorkel, and observe the sea lions.
Later you will be transferred to the Baltra airport for your
flight to Quito. Upon arrival in Quito you will be transferred
to your hotel.
Day 6: QUITO (B)
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, has a setting that few cities
can match. It was founded in 1534 and was the former capital
of the northern Inca Empire. It is called the city of eternal
spring and displays some of the finest architecture. A tour
of the city takes you through the northern residential section
to see the impressive Parliament building, whose stone mural
records Ecuador's history. Visit St. Augustine Monastery,
Independence Plaza, La Compania Church, and the Cathedral
of San Francisco. Continue to the Equatorial Monument and
it's museum located at latitude 0, where you can stand with
one foot on each of the hemispheres. Return to your hotel.
Remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 7: QUITO - LIMA (B)
Early morning breakfast and transfer from hotel to airport
to board your flight to Lima. You will be met and assisted
upon arrival in Lima and transferred to your hotel. Remainder
of the day is at leisure.
Day 8: LIMA (B)
Today enjoy a city tour of Lima. Your tour visits landmarks
of the city such as the magnificent 17th century San Francisco
monastery & its unique cloisters, Plaza de Armas &
Government Palace, the court of the Inquisition & the
Cathedral. Continue to the Gold & Arms Museum which houses
and impressive collection of Peruvian artifacts
Day 9: LIMA - CUZCO (B)
Early morning breakfast and transfer from hotel to airport
to board your short flight to Cuzco. You will be met and assisted
upon arrival in Cuzco and transferred to your hotel. You have
free time to adjust to the high altitude of 11,000 feet. In
the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Cuzco, the archaeological
capital of the Americas, former capital of the Inca Empire,
and the oldest continuously inhabited city on the continent.
Highlights include a tour of the Colonial City and visits
to the ruins of Tambomachay and Sacsayhuaman Fortress. Afternoon
at leisure.
Day 10: MACHU PICCHU (B,L)
Today you will start the day with a 3-hour train ride through
the sacred valley of Urubamba to the "Lost City of the Incas".
Discovered only in 1911, this city consists of over 200 buildings
that were hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for
over 400 years. A guided tour will take you through temples,
houses and sacred altars of this once lost city. Overnight
near the ruins.
Day 11: MACHU PICCHU - CUZCO (B)
This morning is free to continue exploration of the ruins
on your own. In the afternoon, you will return to Cuzco for
your overnight.
Day 12: CUZCO - PISAC & OLLANTAYTAMBO (B,L)
Following breakfast you will embark upon a full day excursion
to the famous Pisac Indian Market in the Urumbamba valley
where you will have the opportunity to bargain with the natives
for many different types of Peruvian handicrafts and jewelry.
After lunch the tour continues to the village of Ollantaytambo
- an ancient fortress made up of temples and terraces that
towers the valley majestically.
Day 13: CUZCO - PUNO (B,L)
Today you will be transferred from your hotel to the train
station to embark on a 12-hour ride to the city of Juliaca.
Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel
in Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca.
Day 14: PUNO - SUN ISLAND (LAKE TITICACA CROSSING) (B,L,D)
Today you will travel by bus from your hotel to Copacabana
(Bolivia) stopping along the way to visit the floating islands
of the Uros Indians in the Lake Titicaca. After lunch in Copacabana
you will visit the famous Cathedral of the "Virgin Morena",
Bolivia's most important religious shrine. Then you will cross
Lake Titicaca by hydrofoil to Sun Island where you will visit
Pilcocaina Sun Temple. After a short llama trek (25min) to
the Posada del Inca you will enjoy lunch and have the remainder
of the afternoon to relax and enjoy a breathtaking view of
the lake and the royal range of the Andes. Dinner and overnight
at the Posada del Inca.
Day 15: SUN ISLAND - HUATAJATA (LAKE TITICACA CROSSING)
(B,L,D)
Today you will visit the Inca Staircase and the Inca Sacred
Spring, said to be a source of eternal youth and happiness.
After lunch you will travel via hydrofoil to Moon Island and
visit the Sun Virgin's Temple, where the most beautiful women
of the Inca Empire were trained in domestic affairs and kept
a sacred fire burning for the Inca. Upon arrival in Huatajata,
enjoy an audiovisual presentation of the Kallawayas and an
evening visit to their mystic world. Candlelight dinner with
a folkloric "Peoa" show and overnight at the Inca Utama Hotel
& Spa.
Day 16: HUATAJATA - LA PAZ (B)
Today you will drive to La Paz and your hotel. Afternoon at
leisure.
Day 17: LA PAZ (B)
The city of La Paz was founded in 1548 and boasts a unique
blend of cultures located within a magnificent mountain panorama.
This morning's tour of the city visits a typical Indian market,
the famous Witch Doctor's Market and the San Francisco Colonial
Church built in 1744. You pass the Plaza Murillo where the
Cathedral, the Government Palace and the National Congress
buildings are located. From here you will visit the famous
colonial "Calle Jaen" street and the archaeological Temple
of the Tiwanacu period. Continue through the areas of Obrajes,
Calasoto and La Florida to the Moon Valley. Remainder of the
day at leisure.
Day 18: LA PAZ - USA (B)
After an early morning breakfast you will be transferred from
your hotel to the airport for your departing flight home.
